United Artists Building
150 Bagley St.
What's happening?
The long-delayed United Artists development would rehab the 18-story building into 148 units with retail space. In December 2021, lead developer Emmett Moten Jr. sought additional loans of $6 million from the Downtown Development Authority for the $73.7 million project. (It's also received city tax breaks of about $2.43 million, $3 million in Community Development Block Grant funding and loans from public sources.) The attached Howard Crane-designed United Artists, which opened in 1928, is expected to be demolished. Olympia Development owns the property and initially announced the redevelopment plans in 2017 as part of its larger District Detroit plans.
