In February 2022, Detroit City Council approved a proposal to sell 56 acres of city-, Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority- and Land Bank-owned parcels at and around the site of the former American Motors Corporation headquarters to NorthPoint Development for $4.86 million. (Additional parcels are included in NorthPoint's 2021 agreement with the DBRA.) NorthPoint, based in Missouri, plans to build a 500,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and demolish 900,000 square feet of AMC structures. In December 2021, demolition for the $66 million project was estimated to begin in 2022, construction in 2023 and opening in late 2023 or early 2024.
