What's happening?
New plans for the Detroit Center for Innovation to be built in the District Detroit were announced in December 2021. The center will be part of a three-building campus and is a partnership between the University of Michigan, the Ilitch family's Olympia Development and Stephen Ross' real estate firm Related Cos. DCI will be anchored by a $250 million, 200,000 square-foot research and education center operated by U-M. It will also include a technology incubator, housing and green space and is expected to break ground in 2023. Earlier plans called for the center to be built at the failed jail site downtown owned by Bedrock, but the partnership was dissolved ahead of the new location announcement.
